Central Oregon's elevation and comparatively arid climate relative to Portland and the Willamette Valley limits the variety of crops grown here. Hence the ag industry is concentrated on hay, grain, and mint production as well as grass, garlic and carrot seed production. Cattle ranching is also prevalent, especially in the more isolated reaches of the vast tri-county area. Horse ranching and training has become an increasingly large component of the industry. | |
