Secondary Wood Products
If there is an industry that still defines Oregon’s worldwide competitive advantage in manufacturing technology it is wood products. Some of the world’s largest sawmills were built here and today some of the largest moulding plants remain. Central Oregon was once home to dozens of primary lumber mills, which have been replaced by secondary manufacturers producing a wide range of building products including moulding & millworks, doors & windows, flooring, trusses, and engineered lumber. Cabinetry, furniture and other fine craft woodworking has also carved out a solid niche on the High Desert. Combined, wood and building products account for nearly one of every four manufacturing jobs in the Central Oregon region. EDCO is seeking to attract more value-added firms to the region that will help support, diversify and keep this important industry strong.
