Central Oregon Aerospace/Aircraft Industry
In 1992, leaders of Lancair chose Redmond, Oregon among 200 communities to relocate their aspiring composite experimental aircraft manufacturing company. Nearly 20 years later, 18 composite airplanes (piston, turbo prop, jet, glider) have been fully developed here from concept to flying prototype - creating a center for excellence and know-how for both advanced composites manufacturing (material science) and world-class airframe design and engineering.
Serving the light aircraft manufacturers have been a host of supplier companies in everything from avionics to air conditioning, lighting to interiors. By 2006, more than a half billion dollars in economic impact was resulting from the industry.

Since 1992, Lancair has been manufacturing composite experimental aircraft in Redmond.
