Oregon does not have the reputation as being a center for excellence or industry concentration in bioscience, however Central Oregon has some of the most interesting things happening anywhere in the state in pharmaceutical development.  Led by Bend Research and more than a dozen companies spun off or founded by former employees, research and development for some of the largest, most influential firms in the industry are performed here. 
 
Several medical device manufacturers call the region home including Phillips, MediSISS, Chapman-Huffman and startup Clear Catheter Solutions.   Supplier specialties to these and other OEMs include five-axis machining, electronic circuitry (prototype to production) Swiss machining, electronic discharge machining (EDM), fused deposition modeling and a host of advanced industrial coatings needed by the medical device manufacturing industry.
