Tech entrepreneurs heavily invest into growing their businesses but often lose sight of creating tangible value in the case of a future sale. Sales and mergers become all the more viable in tight economic times.

“Structuring your business for a potential future sale or merger is necessary for all tech leaders,” said Shane Moncrieff, President of Portland based Jibe Consulting. “The tech industry consolidates as much or more than any other by mergers and acquisitions.”

Selling Your IT Business gives a complete overview of the selling process, covering everything from valuation, finding the right buyer, to negotiating strategically to closing the sale. The information is presented step-by-step, complete with sample forms, checklists, and agreements. Because it focuses exclusively on IT businesses, this guide provides in-depth information about issues and challenges that are unique to them.

Chalfin, who served on the Orcom board of directors, will address the challenges tech and IT businesses face in today’s economy and what those companies should be doing in the current economic climate to succeed. He will also discuss what people should consider when purchasing, selling and operating a business now.

SAO is pleased to have the support of Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO), Central Oregon Computer User Group (COWPU), Central Oregon Information Systems User Group (COISUG) and Central Oregon Women in Tech (WoTech) for this event.

“It is very exciting to see the community coming together in Central Oregon,” said Lewis Howell of Cinetix Solutions and spearhead of Central Oregon Information Systems User Group (COISUG). “Events like this are a key component to bringing together all the right pieces of the tech community to help propel it forward.”

Marilyn Beem will be introducing Mr. Chalfin at the event. She is the former president of Orcom Inc., a vertical market software company in Bend Oregon. Orcom had over 200 employees with customers in 40+ states. It was sold in January 1997 to a joint venture owned by Pacificorp and KN Energy.

“We are happy to have a blossoming tech community here in Central Oregon, but we certainly could use a few more companies like Orcom at its peak to give the tech community the shot in the arm that it needs,” said Beem. “It’s great to have Bob back in Bend.”
