Portland Business Journal Bend insurance company expands into Montana Clear Choice Health Plans Inc. has announced plans to expand into the Montana market beginning in January 2008.
The Bend-based health insurer will initially offer group plans for companies with 50 or more workers, individual and family plans, and Medicare Advantage plans. Clear Choice's commercial plans will be available statewide, while Medicare Advantage plans will initially be sold in Flathead, Lake, Lincoln and Missoula counties.
The Montana expansion is the health plan's first foray into an out-of-state market.
Clear Choice carries a high concentration of Medicare and Medicaid membership, and has traditionally served rural markets in Central Oregon, Eastern Oregon and the Columbia Gorge. As of April 2007, Clear Choice had 19,500 Oregon Health Plan members, 11,300 Medicare Advantage members and 13,200 commercially insured and self-insured members.
In October 2005, Clear Choice Health Plans wrapped up an in-state stock offering, raising $7.5 million to develop and market new products, and expand its commercial membership base.
