BEND 2030 TOWN HALL EVENT - 10/17/08
Thank you to all of our sponsors, contributors, featured Lead Partners, speakers, and to all who attended the recent Bend 2030 Town Hall event, Passport*Bend. We really appreciate everyone who came to learn more about how Bend’s community vision is being accomplished through the key stakeholders and Lead Partners.
This community forum provided a great opportunity to interact with community leaders in an open setting, to engage in meaningful dialogue one-on-one, and to collaborate on creative solutions to our many challenges. By featuring Lead Partners, we wanted to create a refreshing way to “travel through your own community” and to learn much more than by just reading a newspaper.
Our speakers had very profound messages on why the Bend 2030 vision is important for the economic, environmental & cultural climate of Bend:
· Eric King, Bend City Manager discussed why having a vision is especially important during challenging economic times because it provides guidance as to what is important to the community. There have been times when faced with difficult decisions that he has returned to the Bend 2030 community vision.
Doug LaPlaca, President and CEO of Visit Bend shared that the message from the community as captured in the Bend 2030 community vision is the same as the message used to attract businesses and visitors to Bend. These messages are reflected in Visit Bend’s advertisements and marketing materials.
· Brad Bailey, President of Bend Garbage and Recycling discussed how just one small idea from the Bend 2030 visioning process, an idea shared by the community, led Bend Garbage and Recycling to institute curbside yard debris recycling and to improve their entire recycling operations.
Passport*Bend Town Hall made possible by the following:
Deschutes County Economic Development Fund Grant
- approved by Commissioner Tammy Melton
